Carneval of Mathametics Fiften and a kwiz

August 25, 2007 am31 7:35 am

I guess the joke gets old fast, but there are always others to take its place. John, on A Mispelt Bog (watch that spelling) hosts the latest installment (#15) of the Carnival of Mathematics. This week, the tail end of summer, the links are few but the quality is high and the writing is entertaining, informative, engaging. There’s no reason not to work your way through all of them.

Com-XVAnd he created a collage that relates to several of the topics. How many of these:

can you match to the correct post? I will write a suitable laudatory post for the first commenter to get all 7 (John himself excluded).

The stamp is clearly for the Petr Newman Douglas theorem, which relates to my post, (though he links to loads of other stuff on it)

Rubik’s cube obviously goes with Julie Rehmeyer’s post on the new upper bound for the number of moves to solve any rubik’s cube (Spoiler, 26, though they suspect it’s as low as 20)

The SAT question thing goes to Dave Marain’s question about a sequence that occurred on a *AT test.

Fear Factor seems to go to you, talking about FOIL, but I’d say it could also be applied to the Secret Blogging Seminar, judging by the look of some of those posts.

That leaves chicken nuggets, money, and the CEO sign.

The CEO sign obviously goes to John Armstrong, though it could more accurately read ‘Will CEO For Insane Amounts Of Money’

The chicken nuggets. I’m tempted to eat them myself, but I do believe they go to Jeffrey Shallit for his discussion on the frobenius problem, which is a great problem ^^ I recommend it.

And the money. Really not sure about the money. Could go to the CEO posting, but it already has a picture. Might even go with the mentioning of factoring, as a subtle reference to the RSA prize numbers. I like to think it might even go to my own post, since the van Aubel proof is pure money. But in the end I’ll give it to the car word problem post, which no doubt needs it so as to pay for the gas.

Nice work Foxy! Has anyone found the Easter Egg (oh – did I forget to mention there was one?).

I guess Foxy can claim his prize. Here from a few months ago is my frobenius post – kids love the problem, and there are some way neat investigations available on the elementary level (eg can you come up with a b and c so there is no maximum impossible sum?)

I didn’t hunt for an easter egg, I am trying to work through all the posts though. I’ll check the links…

Does it have something to do with the pattern of chicken nuggets?
