On having nice places to walk

May 19, 2026 am31 1:45 am

Lately I really have needed to walk. A lot. Every day. And I’m fortunate that the New York Botanical Garden is right here. And I’m fortunate that Van Cortland Park I can drive to, the lake house, in about 10 minutes. And I can walk to the Mosholu entrance in about 20 minutes.

Since the gardens close at six, and since the sun stays up until eight, and the birds love singing late in the day, I’ve been getting to Van Cortland a little bit more.

Monday, Van Cortlandt, Mosholu entrance
Sunday, Van Cortlandt walkway next to the Deegan
That’s a heron, right? And a fish jumping? And vireos making a racket?
