Looking to spend your Christmas break on a New York City jury?

Mr. Reynolds, my 10th grade history teacher, would look the kid in the eye, the one who had just said something spectacularly stupid, and say “no jury in the world would convict me…” Great laugh line.

But on December 23rd no jury in the world will convict anyone. No lawyer would select a jury right before christmas, no judge would hear a trial. Get in at 9 (it’s a school day by the way – did you know that?), sit around all morning, and then, before lunch, get your name called, a stamp, and a “thank you for your service” – with my Christmas break underway at 12:30 on the last day of school.

      Nice, huh?

Life’s not that perfect, so I actually chose December 16. Very unlikely for a trial to start then. So good strategy. But no early Christmas break…
