Chase Chased
I asked this morning, when will the principal who lusted for office machinery be gone? And the answer came just hours later.
In a closed-door meeting with staff earlier today, the principal of Bronxdale Academy, John Chase, announced that he’d had it, and would be out by the end of the week.
The DOE will doubtlessly claim that the notoriety of the case caused such disruption that it would be better for all…
But we know better. Chase’s victims refused to be afraid. They, and their supporters, refused to quit. They went to the UFT. They went to politicians. They went to Albany. They went to the streets.
And even after the headlines died down, they persevered. And today, they won. We all did. Thanks to all those who played their parts.
Perfect ending to a school year coming to a close. What a piece of SHIT who the DOE is still keeping around, for jokes of course. He should work with Margie Feinberg, she’d like his comments.
This is the best news ever! I am happy to know that my union sisters will not have to deal with that type of person anymore. They can feel safe and respected as they work hard to help the students in the school. Justice has prevailed. No more Chase!
“He’d had it”? Really? So sorry for him. He should have “had it” months ago and saved his victims and school further suffering.
Great news! Must be a relief and satisfaction to those who suffered his abuse–but why did they have to suffer. The DOE at its worst! Unfortunately, he joins a long list of abusers.
Good work to all who fought back.
A most welcomed post (CHASE) and it is these too few justices that often enable us to, at least, continue our personal and collective resistance to a diabolical system . Kudos to those people who did not back down in fear, despite the hostile and fearful work environment . Perhaps Chase will have time for a cup of tea with the principal who was brought down at the Roosevelt Campus last year, after years of his perversion pervaded people’s lives.
DON’T MISS THE WARNING SIGNS
Principal John Chase may be leaving Bronxdale High School this week but he certainly is not going far enough. His apparent demotion and reassignment as an assistant principal to another school is just unacceptable. All of the warning signs are there and they must not be ignored. He received merely a slap on the wrist and was required to attend sensitivity training as a result of substantiated allegations made against him since becoming the principal of this Bronx high school. In light of a new allegation made recently against him, this time be a student, he should be immediately removed from any contact with students. The Department of Education needs to move quickly to reconsider their position, initiate charges against John Chase seeking his termination and place him on an ineligible list for any possible future employment with the Department of Education. There have been too many cases where, after the fact, we have asked ourselves if there were any warning signs that we should have seen. Well, does anyone else see what is happening here? WHAT DO YOU THINK?
If it is a fact that Chase really was a grade school teacher upstate, and after a brief stint as a science teacher at the other end of the City was transmogrified into a Principal at Bronxdale HS on the Columbus Campus, then who transmogrified him out of there and into an AP job elsewhere. SINCE IT WASN’T WATTERSON ( the creator of Calvin and Hobbes), it MUST be that Chase has a rabbi somewhere downtown.
1. He abuses women, and his position as a supervisor.
2. He defines no skill, lack of social grace, no experience related to performing his duties, and an employee who should never work in any school-ever.
3. His behavior would merit immediate reassignment to the “Rubber Room” if he were not a supervisor— oops, this DOE doesn’t have one for supervisors.
I’m just glad I worked for the BOE, not this DOE (Death On Education). At least the kids who were graduated from those schools had a diploma worth quite a bit.
I worked with Chase at a previous school and he hasn’t changed one bit. He was sexually inappropriate there, making comments and persisting with flirtations. He also was a bully bringing up false discipline charges on good teachers who refused to be bullied. He also harassed teachers who were threatening to him by being good at their job. The principal of that school even ignored allegations made via a written letter by a female student that he was making sexually inappropriate comments and gestures to her because the principal herself (Michelle Ashkin) was so incompetent she couldn’t wrap her hear around running a school with out her sleazy side kick. I am outraged that people like this are being backed up by Walcott. I thought he was all about children first? I guess it’s more like sleazy principals first.
It’s a shame that OSI hasn’t looked again into the allegations made here. This guy is a walking time bomb for the DOE, and while the DOE deserves what it gets, the harm to kids and staff done by Chase and Ashkin is unforgiveable.
John Chase has been demoted to an ATR Assistant Principal position and has been assigned by the DOE to Wings Academy HS in the Bronx. It is appalling that this ex-principal found guilty of sexual harrassment is still employed, while teachers are immediately removed from their positions just on an accusation. This shows that the DOE leadership are hypocrites, do not care about the safety of staff or children, and to save face, would put this pervert into another school. Notice how Walcott makes such a huge media fanfare about “zero tolerance” for teachers accused, but has 100% support for principals found guilty with no media fanfare at all. Hypocrites!!
