UFT HS VP special election

UFT HS VP Frank Volpicella has retired. This coming Monday the Executive Board will vote on his replacement. The two nominees are Leo Casey (supported by the Unity caucus), and me, nominated by New Action.
I am assuming the vote will be down caucus lines, and that I will lose by about 81-8. All the same, it’s a chance to speak to some responsibilities of the HS VP, which I will do in the coming week.

I would vote for you if I could!
Well, there is still the message side that can be emphasized. There are differences between being a Special Rep and being HS VP, and this creates the opportunity to discuss some of them.
Certainly near the top of my list would be taking the report issued by the Small School Task force, and prominently working from its conclusions rather than letting it sit in a drawer.
Oh god Leo Casey given more power! I guess he can get together with Michael Best (DOE) and expedite the removal of more teachers. Better yet send them to Darfur!!
I’m not certain the role of any individual in this union is quite as large as that, plus, you can’t have been surprised that Leo was one of the first considered?
