Where is riverbend?

October 2, 2006 am31 10:08 am

There is a link on the right side of this page, near the bottom, to Baghdad Burning. The author, an Iraqi woman, was a computer programmer before the US invasion. Since August 2003 she has been blogging, usually once or twice every two weeks.

Girl Blog from Iraq“Riverbend” as the author calls herself, has been quite critical of the occupation. She has also provided much insight on daily life.

A volume of her blogs was published by The Feminist Press at CUNY in the spring of 2005.

Her latest post, August 5, talked about families being threatened and intimidated into leaving their (mixed Sunni-Shi’a) neighborhood. And now it has been over 8 weeks and not another post. Is there any information? Is she ok? Will she be blogging again?

I’m also searching the web in hopes of some clue. Does anyone know if Riverbend is okay? Her long silence is so troubling.

There was speculation that she left clues in the August 5 post that she was leaving the country, but it is only speculation. I hope she surfaces soon.

I was an avid reader of her blog, and am also very fearful. It’s been two months since her last posting. I hate to think the worst, but I think the worst may have happened. JD2718, I hope you’re right.

I am really worried about her this time (there have been other long absences). She actually replied to two of my e-mails over the past couple of years, which made me feel a bond with her. I keep e-mailing her, telling her that I hope she’s safe. She may have left the country with her family. In any case, it’s nice to let her know that you care about her — she’s had some pretty nasty e-mails from Americans since the war started…

I hope she and her family are safe and in good health.
