Carnival of Education 134 – click the hat

Too late edit, September 6, 2007. Can’t justify keeping anti-union links.
Matthew K Tabor has been trying to explain why it is ok for non-teachers to write about education. But he needs no explanation for this: a truly first-rate Carnival of Education (#134). See, you’re being invited to take a ride. Click on the man’s hat and take a look around.

Thanks for the kind words and for giving a shout to the Carnival.
I’m love the discussion going on in that non-teacher thread. It provides a clear glimpse into how different parties in the education debate think about one another. Some parts make me smile, some parts make me shake my head.
FWIW, I don’t think you need to teach to talk about education, to have serious ideas. However, teaching does inform discussion about teaching. Voices from the classroom should carry more weight, and with many of us, they do. And non-teacher ed people who are closer to the classroom, their voices carry more weight than those further away (proximate either to teachers, or people who come into schools to observe).
It’s a middle ground, where I’m standing, but one that recognizes that teaching gives perspective.
